Interesting read! I’m currently thinking about stage 1 or 2 on my 180 quattro TT.
Hi Chris,
My engine code is ARY. I’m presuming it’s a K03s but I may be wrong any information on this is appreciated
Hi Richard.
ARY is indeed equipped with a k03/s. also has a smallport head without vvt.
We are hoping to eventually get a list of all the known engine codes and how the come from the factory.
Regards

Thanks for the update! Great website
r-tech have them up on there tuning page
Hello Richard – I have 2004 AMB -I cant find much if any info .where might I look and what are the strong parts and also weakness’s thanks Rick
Hi Ste, I was just wondering whether it’s worth changing replacing a 14 year old turbo that’s done 85K with a new one before a stage 1 tune?
Hi Richard. Sorry for the delayed response!
It’s not really needed. And at stage 1 state of tune It’s not going to get you more power. But it’s always good to have a healthy turbo so have your current turbo rebuilt with a new bearing a seals is never going to be a bad thing! 🙂

Hi, really fantastic detailed information. I have a question if ok. I have a Lupo with an AGU running a hybrid K03s, FMIC, uprated intank fuel pump, Bosch green 440cc injectors, 3inch MAF, turbo back 2.5inch stainless system, live map with boost control built into ecu. Running around 300bhp, but my question is on fuelling, from partial throttle to boost it can feel as if fuel surge is apparent. What would you recommend, a secondary pump or maybe uprated fuel rail/regulator. Cheers Rich
Thank you for putting up your web page. Clearly laid out, thoughtful and succinct.
I would like to share an Excel file that I found for the Audi Engine Code Reference.

Over about 5 years. I’ve set up a Google Drive Folder, plus a rather messy webpage for myself, as a collection receptacle for my car data, supplier links, How-To, Tools, Spares that I’ve bought, 1.8T Trouble Shooting Guide, VIN & Option Decoder,
Other Audi Forums etc.
Some of the links may be broken, though.
Happy to share all that too, once I’ve cleaned it up a bit, and removed sensitive data, if you’d like that.

Hi Chris,
Australian here with an Mk4 GOLF – AGU Engine. The few of us utilising k03s turbos are mapped with a flash tune from ‘Custom Code’. Requires 4 Bar FPR with standard injectors, upgraded pump. It would be interesting to see the difference between an rtech tune and the CC flash. But for the time being it seems to be quite an aggressive tune.
For people wanting to go big turbo (>k04) on an AGU, they can undertake an ME7 ecu and loom swap. This obviously requires other parts but overcomes the restrictions of the AGU. There are some great Forum posts on vwwatercooled that detail the swap. https://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/showthread.php?p=1199683
I like the site btw.
Followed your suggestions,
Following Spec:
Forge FMIC
VR6 MAF
Saab red’s
Billet injector cups
K03s
Turbo back sport cat exhaust
APS fuel pump
-10an oil catch can set up
Made 249bhp and 275lbft today. Around 1.4bar peak boost. Perfect curve and super driveable. That’s on Bosch 3.8 to!
hi mate where was it you got the ecu flashed or remapped
Hi William. There are several places in the UK who are great with remapping the 1.8t. Both me and Chris have used Niki at r-tech (can be found in the reccomended suppliers section of the site)
Awesome to hear luke!
Sounds like you’ve built yourself a decent car! I’m glad we could help! 🤙

Hi Ste, I’ve had some issues with the AGU and it’s lack of MAP sensor, without the feedback for pressure I’ve found I was getting fuel cut on part throttle which could have been mapped out with enough time. However I’ve just upgraded to a GFB G-Force 2 boost controller and will get the map tweaked to suit but this seems a much more stable and user friendly way to control boost.
Hi Luke shell is ware did you get your billet injector cups from
Do you still need to upgrade the MAF tube and Injectors if you have an AUM?
If your going stage 2 K03s then the standard ones will probably do you just fine. Just keep a eye for signs of the fuel dropping lean at top end due to a weakening OEM in-tank pump.
Hello,
Finely found a good website on the 1.8t, thanks a lot 😀
I have som questions:
-What turbo is on my a4 with 190hk (BEX i think the engine code is)
-Can you fit an e85 content sensor to the stock ecu (probably dum question but worth asking)
-Some one told me that i can by a deverter valv, maf, and injectors from an s3 and then a cip tune for an s3… do you know anything about that?
-Do you know any good tuners in sweden?
Thanks again for the grate website and al the info 🙂
