We created a page to outline the basics to beginning to tune the 1.8T Engine. Before you start tuning any engine, its always a great idea to decide on the power goals you want from the car, how it will drive on the road, and most importantly, your budget.
For this reason, we created this site to give a overview of what you can expect from different stages of tune, and a rough indication of cost involved. We believe its crucial to ‘Do it right, Do it once!’

Hello! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but after browsing through some of the post I realized it’s
new to me. Anyhow, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll
be book-marking and checking back frequently!
Hi would like to gave some advice from you, need to upgrade the turbo on my mk1 vrs octavia, preferably with manifold, ko4 064 or garret equivalent. Gonna have to fabricate downpipe from whatever turbo I get, Running with a cheap T04E at moment, with bespoke 3 inch stainless steel exhaust made and fitted by Pipewerx of Wigan, engine has had the conrods upgraded new shells during rebuild, upgraded ejectors, fuel pump, fmic, tsfi coil packs, Abd intake manifold. Plus loads of other suspension upgrades.
Will also need to change gearbox as well as the car was fitted with a 6 speed golf GTI tdi box and running gear, been told to get an LCR box but need advice on this as well.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Paul. Sound like you have a decent plan :).
What exactly is it you want advice on?
I would definitly advise to ditch the tdi box in favour of a 1.8t box. The gear ratios will be much better suited.
I’m wondering the best place to start with modding my Mk4/AGU/Gti. I’m a novice and looking for things I can do relatively cheap and easy myself like upgrading the turbo inlet pipe. I have already Installed a cold air box, heat shield, short stock intake, boost gauge, getting the crankcase breather system sorted, what else can I do along those lines? Thanks in advance, preferably aimed at performance getting the motor running optimal so I know what it involves if as I keep upgrading, cheers
Hey Francis!
I would highly recommend you check out our stage 1 and stage 2 guides in the k03/k03s section of the website.
Theres loads of useful info there which should hopefully answer your questions! but to sum it up…..get the engine in a healthy state. Service it, replace the all the filters, spark plugs, cambelt and water pump, healthy pvc system with a catch can maybe, tight recirc valve etc.
Once you are happy with the state it is in look into the mods. FMIC, vr6 clutch kit, oversized intake pipe, large surface area air filter, 3″ downpipe and exhaust etc. 🙂
Hi,
Thanks very much for the excellent site and it’s organisational structure.
I’m in Australia and I’ve had an Audi 1.8t for about 12 years.
During that time I have amassed quite a bit of information from various sites. The following is a really well written explanation for people building high performance engines or even for people rebuilding any engine.
Hi,
What is the best code to have for tuning the engine to 400-ish HP? I don’t really know, I thought the AWD was the best. Could you guys please help me out?!
Thanks,
Mads.
My 1.8t has a k24 turbo. How many inches is the down pipe h that fits this? Also, is the catback thinner than the down pipe useless?
